4 Great Back to School Products

Next week is the first day of school for most public school kids here in Kentucky, including me! I guess you could say I have had a bit of experience in the public school department, and I thought I would share some of my favorite products to make my school day a little cuter and a lot more stress free!

  1. BACKPACK- I have had the same purple jansport back pack since the first day of Kindergarten and it has never failed me. Not one rip! It may not be the coolest with the most pockets and fun patterns, but it won't break!

    2.  PENCIL- My dad is a 'pencilist' and he has all sorts of fancy pencils. One of my favorites for school is a General's Cedar Pointe, because it sharpens very well and has a quality eraser. Plus, it's cute!

   3.  ACCESSORY- Back at the beginning of summer I got a blue and white polkadot headband with a bow on it. I didn't have much use for it then, but I recently chopped my locks and it looks super cute on me now! It's a simple and adorable addition to any outfit

4.   JOURNAL- I have decided to journal my way through high school, and I have been obsessed with Target's new notebooks this year! I picked my favorite book by Greenroom Notebooks. It's black and gold with lined paper inside, perfect for a fine point Sharpie and some adorable washi tape! Read my post on how to journal here!

Good luck to everyone going back to school! Comment what your most used product for school is--
Have a great week

being ok with the granny i am

  • i'm constantly wearing sweaters
  • indoor plants are my favorite!
  • very rarely do i find myself loving younger actors
  • or teenager tv shows
  • snail mail is the best kind
  • i am a little obsessed with flowery patterns
  • i guess i'm a little more traditional than most kids my age
  • i'm not opposed to older music
  • crocheting is fun!
And I am ok with that! All of this goes to say that you should be okay with being a granny too! As a young person I've been trying to figure out my style lately (just check out my Pinterest boards) and being able to wear the clothes that I like is kind of hard. I don't want to wear crop tops and booty shorts, or listen to the newest 1D or Wiz Khalifa song...or whatever those YOUTHS are doing these days!

ahhh i just love leslie.
Keep in mind everyone, being different is great fun (most of the time). You will find other people like you that will make you really excited to not be alone, and to have someone to watch I Love Lucy with! Being excited about stuff with other people is one of the best free experiences you can get.

Thank you for reading my tiny rant/shot of inspirations. Hopefully you guys take this to heart.
It's okay to be different
Have a fantastic day.
Looooove, Bree

Top Summer Picks

In this warmer weather, everything is cuter. I don't know why, but the world looks a little more kawaii in the summer. Also, I have been spending quite a bit of time on Pinterest, and I wanted to share some of my favorite summery things with all of you!

Via marthastewart.com
Dessert: My favorite summer time treat is a delicious bowl of affogoto. It's a scoop of vanilla ice cream and two shots of espresso, perfect for a small after dinner dessert. Starbucks doesn't serve them, but you can make it at home with just coffee and ice cream, and some independent shops sell them too. THEY ARE HEAVENLY

Via goodhousekeeping.com
Nails: My family is taking in 2 interns this summer and one of them really enjoys painting nails, so she did these comic book nails for me last night, which I really love. We kind of modified them, by using red gel polish, then outlining the nails with a sharpie and adding the white streaks. These are super cute!

Via target.com

Accessory: A couple years ago my wonderful mommy bought me an owl watch for Christmas I believe, and it has come back into Brenna's wardrobe for the summer. The mint green watch goes with a lot more outfits than I expected, so this is my favorite accessory right now!

Via blog.justinablakely.com
Print: Right now I am obsessed with pineapples! I don't have a single piece of clothing with any pineapple on it at all which makes me very sad, so instead I adorn my Pinterest boards with them. Also I recently dyed my hair a little lighter and one of my friends told me I have pineapple hair :)

Via francinerivers.com
Book: My mom just introduced me to the Francine Rivers books. I unfortunately can't remember the name of the series, but these book are spectacularly written, based off women of the Bible who barely got a sentence about them. They are really interesting and if you are a Christian woman, or interested in different cultures, I definitely recommend these! It opened my eyes to the Old Testament.

Do you think I missed something really important? What are you summer favorites, or your favorite out of these?
Let me know by commenting, tell me what you think!
Have fun this summer and be safe~

A Father's Day Home

Yesterday was a special day for me, because as well as celebrating my dad and grandpas, it was the one year anniversary of leaving Washington.
One year ago yesterday, my mom, dad, two sisters and I said our final goodbyes to our close friends and family and drove to California. Of course we didn't get to Kentucky until 11 days later, but still, it was a big day XD
Anyway, yesterday felt like we went home a little bit because we went out for Japanese food. In the PNW we'd usually go to Koto's Teriyaki but they don't have that here so INSTEAD we went to this fancy-ish restaurant that I forgot the name of, but it was delicious! I had way too much fried rice and yakisoba, and I loved it. Interestingly enough, Kentucky doesn't have much teriyaki places.
Afterwards we drove to a park with a nice river. We fell in a couple of times and pretty much basked in how much like home it was. Not too hot or humid, nice cold water, quite a bit of mud and lots of trees.

Plus, I collected shells! They are pretty small which is perfect for sneaking home in your pocket. Don't worry, no snails or oysters were harmed in the making of this post.
You can see a much better picture of this on my Instagram, just click the button!
Speaking of the shells, I was wondering if anyone has any good craft ideas that I can use them for. I really like them but they can't just sit by the candle forever. Any spectacular ideas?
>Also after the park, we watched Back to the Future and I love Michael J Fox so that was a fantastic ending to a fantastic day<
I'm considering yesterday a success. How did you spend Father's Day?
Much love, Brenna :)

How To Clean Your Bedroom

Since school is over for me, I've been spending way too much time in my room, and in order to get anything done, I need my space to be clutter-free and organized. Cleaning your room could take 30 minutes to a few weeks, depending on how messy your room is, so be prepared to do some work!

  • Get ready! I like to put on some music that I can sing along to, that will distract my mind from straying too far into cleaning. Let your family know that today is official cleaning day! When they know you are already doing something productive, they will be less likely to add random chores to your to-do list.

  • The first step is to make your bed. That is usually the main part of a bedroom, so wash your bedding, including pillow-cases, and make up your bed again!

  • While your bedding is in the wash, perhaps move onto a smaller project, like removing trash, getting rid of useless papers, organizing your makeup, nail polish or something like that. Organizing the little things makes your bedroom look much more efficient!

  • Get as much as you can off the floor. If you don't have a lot of shelf space, place items into specific stack-able boxes. When less is on the floor, it's easier to vacuum/sweep and your room looks bigger.

  • Laundry is always on the floor in my room, and it is my #1 problem. (I might be writing this post to avoid putting it away) My dresser is rather small, so fitting everything in is always a struggle. If you have the afternoon off, put on some music or a movie, and get rid of all the clothes you don't wear. You can give your old clothes away, donate them, and I usually give them to my younger sisters as hand-me-downs. My shirts are about 50% camp shirts, 20% School shirts, 10% ugly and 20% wearable, so I try to give away my old school tees and the ones I don't like. DON'T GET TOO ATTACHED TO CLOTHES

  • Re-organize decorations. I have a cork board in my room and every couple of months I like to replace the items on it with newer things. I have post cards, drawings, quotes, pictures and a ton of other stuff that I can rotate through, to leave my room looking just a little bit newer and more exciting.

Those are just a few ways to start de-cluttering your room!  Remember to work on one project at a time until it is finished, so that you don't have several different messes in your room and no work done at all.
Did I miss something important, or do you have a great way to clean? Let me know in the comments!
Have fun cleaning and don't procrastinate too much! -Bree

Devo Monday//Talent

This weeks devotional is inspired by the amazing people I met at Aladdin! So talented, and only high schoolers :)
The verse says "As each has received a gift, use it to serve one another, as good stewards of God's varied grace." We all have gifts from God, because we were made in His image. This verse is pretty straight forward about it too.
Use your talents, whether it be dancing, singing, writing, doing hair, playing football or anything else, use them to show the grace of the Lord in your life.
Also, doing something you love, to serve Jesus makes that activity so much more fun! Just doing something with the intent to serve brings a ton of joy.
 Have a happy memorial day!

Beauty Blogging?

Hello!
Today I'm skipping Devo Monday to introduce a new idea. I'm thinking of starting to review beauty products!
I have recently fallen in love with the art of makeup. So I was thinking, since I like it so much, why not try writing about it?
In no way, am I an expert, but maybe I could start down that road? Reading beauty blogs and watching YouTube tutorials has become a new hobby of mine, so I decided to maybe give it a try myself!
If anyone has any tips as to how getting started, reviewing products, how to email companies about reviewing their products, I would LOVE it if you commented or emailed them to me!

Devo Monday//Representing

Hello! It's Devotion Monday and today I'm looking at how we talk :)

Being a Christian means that we are "not of this world." Different. And it doesn't mean we are always cool. One way I see that a lot is through our speech. When we talk, we need to represent Christ. 2 Timothy 2:16 says "But avoid irreverent babble, for it will lead people into more and more ungodliness"

I'm not saying that ALL CHRISTIANS DON'T CURSE AND THEY ONLY TALK ABOUT JESUS THAT'S IT. Because that is not true. We aren't perfect, but we do need to represent Him with our words and actions.
So next time you have a conversation with someone, specifically a non-believer or new Christian, remember that you are on this Earth to represent the love of Christ. Not to be the coolest person ever. It's really challenging, but we can work on it together :D
So what do you think? Easy? Hard? Let me know in the comments
Have a great week everyone!

Fashion Friday//Panda

Panda

I found this really cute panda top, and then picked out the TOMS because they are from a charitable organization, and then added the jeans, glasses and bamboo watch, which I really love!
Also, I really love pandas. I have a stuffed animal toy from when I was very little, and since my parents always went away on this weekend every year, for their anniversary, I celebrated my HALF BIRTHDAY with my stuffy, Daniel

Devo Monday//Relax

"Even to your old age and gray hairs
I am he, I am he who will sustain you.
I have made you and I will carry you;
I will sustain you and I will rescue you."

Isaiah 46:4
I really liked this verse that my friend JULIA showed me~ It is saying that when you grow up, and go throughout life, God will STILL be there! So take a deep breath, take a few steps back and see how much the Lord has provided for you. When you trust in Him, dealing with sin and life in general is just so much easier, because you know that whatever happens is for His glory and His plan, and he will rescue you. :) Have a good week

Devo Monday//Friendship

In this day and age, teenagers a lot of times, classify themselves with their friends.
So if you have a lot of friends, you are popular, no matter how good or bad they are for you, or how well you know them.
That societal norm is rather unfortunate, and it leads countless young people down paths where they would never go if that hadn't had that influence on them... if that makes sense.
You feel?
I'm not really sure what we can do about it, other than to not classify ourselves or others by popularity, seeing as we're all equal people.
Aaaaaanyway, Proverbs 27:17 says "As iron sharpens iron, so one person sharpens another."
From a Christian mindset, that means that people influence one another, so we should surround ourselves with people who won't influence us to be sinful or tear us down. Instead, have encouraging friends that will help you grow in your walk with God, and you can help them in return. THIS DOES NOT MEAN that you should only be friends with those that share your beliefs. Sometimes to grow your faith you have to be challenged, and besides, you can't make disciples of people that already are. Make good friends, with people that won't hurt you all the time. And remember to have community and fellowship with other believers as well. Christianity is based on relationships with Jesus first, then others. Make friends and make them well :) Have a great week

Devo Monday//Strength

 Hi there!
>>So I made a new friend during spring break, named Asriel. She has 2 amazing Christian IG accounts ( @all.for.his.glory and @keepingitcoveredandcute) She posts a lot of devotionals along with super cute edits she makes! So I decided to try it out. She also just made a blog that you can check out here. If you don't already know this, I am a Jesus-loving teenager :)
I don't know how many of you will be interested, but I really enjoy this type of stuff.<<

Devo
Isaiah 40:31 says "Yet those who wait for the LORD Will gain new strength; They will mount up with wings like eagles, They will run and not get tired, They will walk and not become weary."

This a huge encouragement to me as a young Christian. When I read this verse I see people in my life that remind me of this truth. Some of my mentors that I look up to, show me what it is like to have this "new strength".
What is it like, you ask? Well when I see someone like that, I see a determination to glorify God. They are just bursting to the top with love. But they don't act like they are perfect either. As a Jesus-lover, you recognize that your own strength isn't sufficient. That's why we rely on Him to take care of us, and He doesn't fail. Which brings me back to the verse. "They will mount up with wings like eagles, They will run and not get tired, They will walk and not become weary."
When you trust God's perfect power, you will not be tired of glorifying Him. Of course we are humans and we make mistakes. But the Lord is always there for us :) So take this as an encouragement for the week ahead. When you trust in God, you will gain new strength.
//What did you think? Any tips on writing devotionals or creating edits?//
Have a great day,
Brenna
